Market
Capitalization represents the aggregate value of a company or a stock.. To get market capitalization of a company, you need to multiply
current market price (CMP) of its share to total number of shares
outstanding. Outstanding shares = total number of shares in circulation
(held) by shareholders. So if a company has A number of shares
outstanding, and CMP of share is B Rs , it market capitalization is AB.Large
cap companies are those having market
capitalization > 200bn. These companies are saturated in growth, so
they offer less capital appreciation, but since they are established
companies, they offer security of money and have less risk.
Mid Cap companies are those having moderate market capitalization i.e. > 50bn and <200bn. These are riskier as compared to large cap stocks.
Small cap mutual funds invests in companies having small market capitalization i.e. < 50bn in (Indian context). These companies mostly consist of start ups or those in initiation phase, so growth possibilities are high, but risk is also high due failure rate of start ups.
The mid cap and small cap may pose less liquidity, so these are good only for investment and not for intraday trading.
